Disasters from this War
My “Disasters” are not obvious, nor spectacular or customary—sometimes they are not apparent at first glance, and some are even disguised as happy events. Unlike Goya, I have had the freedom to restrain the urge to paint other people’s blood and pain; today, TV and the Internet do that enough. These are everyday “tragedies,” even if some don’t appear so. They speak of a daily, common war—a not always silent fever that we all suffer from, though some survive, and others try to cope by taking doses—or simply by buying things they don’t need, traveling, or just trying to get out of the house. Desastres de esta guerra
Mis “Desastres” lo son de una forma poco evidente, nada espectacular, cotidiana, a veces imperceptibles a primera vista, disfrazados, algunos incluso, de acontecimiento feliz. Al contrario que Goya, yo he podido elegir contener mis ganas de pintar la sangre y el dolor de otros: hoy ya lo hace bastante Internet y la televisión.”Tragedias” habituales aunque algunas no parezca que lo son. Refieren a una guerra común, diaria, una fiebre no siempre silenciosa que todos padecemos, aunque algunos sobrevivan y otros se mediquen -o compren lo que no necesitan, o viajen, o busquen salir de casa- para lograr soportarla. Mis propios desastres, mi propia fiebre, ocupan la última fila.
